part2: white bumps on tongue

I have been getting some questions about bumps on the tongue so I thought that I should make a series about different kind of bumps. This is a second article about bumps the first was about bumps on the back of the tongue. This is about White bumps on tongue.


Usually these white bumps are normal and caused by some reaction on your papillaes. The size of them alter by what you but in your mouth as will they color. Anything that irritates them will cause these effects. For instance if you eat something about hot papillaes will probably diminish and become red.

Sometimes white bumps on tongue is caused by yeast infection but in most cases it is just general reaction from your tongue to keep balance on it. If they are painful or if you are concern that they have been there for while you should contact your doctor.

Tongue lesions symptoms and cure

Tongue lesions are any abnormal tissue found on or in an tongue, usually damaged by disease or trauma. Lesions are derived from the Latin word laesio which means injury - wikipedia


In other words you can consider it as tongue cancer with is very dangerous if not healed. In other hand most of lesions are healed with out treatment, but I still recommend in every case to contact to a doctor. If signs of Lesions dosen’t go away in certain time doctor will take biopsy off it and will determine what is eventual cause.

The common causes of tongue lesions are..

Most common reason for tongue lesions are vitamin imbalance. Usually lack of curtain vitamin. Most common deficiency is iron anemia with causes about 60% of all tongue lesion cases. Next biggest cause is malnutrition and thats why most of the cases are encountered in Africa. You can also get tongue lesion if you are HIV positive and again most cases encountered in Africa. Malnutrition and HIV infection covers about 30% of all cases.

In the part of lesions witch are not that dangerous there are things that are caused by some kind of trauma to tongue or beverages or symptoms caused by tobacco induced lesion.

Treatment of tongue lesions

There is not really one good treatment for tongue lesions, but with good mouth hygiene, eating vitamin pills and applying some analgesic cream on the tongue will heal 75% of all tongue lesions.

Another good tip for get better results is to avoid mucus irritants as tobacco, hot food or drinks. You should also use some mouthwash to keep mouth clean. If it is painful you could also eat some analgesics systematically.

What to do painful bumps on tongue?

Recently I have been asked about bumps on tongue and after I talked for it to some doctors they said that it is quite normal and they should go away in few days. How ever if those symptoms stay for a while like a week I recommended you to contact to your dentist or oral doctor to make sure it is nothing to worry about.


If the symptoms are still there after week it might be an infection and it need medical care, but in 90% of cases its nothing only normal anatomy. Basically circumvallate papillae have been swollen like if you shew tobacco or change your mouth water type. It might stay there from few days to week or so. If they are hurting then always contact to your doctor.

In a worst case its really nasty infection witch might come from oral sex or bad mouth hygiene. It might also been diagnosed as sinus infection but if it dosen’t hurt at all it’s propably just swolled tastepubs.
